Amazing Things Will Happen (and they have for me)

My copy of C.C. Chapman’s latest release “Amazing Things Will Happen” finally arrived. I was so excited to support C.C. but never imagined I would get sucked into a self-help categorized book! It was as if C.C. and I were having a philosophical discussion about life, travel, and finding our personal happiness.

I’ve met C.C. a few times over the years and we’ve chatted briefly. The first time was during SxSW in Austin, TX at a rooftop cocktail shindig. We skimmed over the topics of travel, blogging, podcasting, and then went our separate ways. Soon after we bumped into each other again at Blogworld in Las Vegas, NV in the speaker’s lounge. It was always nice to see him smiling.

The last time I saw C.C. was my first CES experience. He was at the Kenmore booth and I was there thanks to Nokia. That event is very overwhelming, especially for a first time attendee and I had been trying to catch up with C.C. for days. We finally managed a quick hug and chat before I had to rush off to the airport to catch a flight home.

For me, reading this book was a reminder of what I am already aware of: “Amazing Things Will Happen” – you just have to have faith, believe, and live the best life you can. I am a firm believer in the anything is possible mantra because I’m living that life every day. I wanted to see the world. I imagined it. Dreamed it. And my dreams became reality. I’m not even 40 years old just yet and I’ve already ticked off most of the items on my bucket list.

I’ll admit sometimes I do feel like an observer, and I’ve somehow managed to sneak in through the back door of a VIP only club. And I’m not kidding when I say that even after more than a decade of travel and writing and interviews and such, I still feel like a fake and that one day someone is going to find me out. I’m sure other people feel the same way also at times. This book has reminded me that I worked hard to get to where I am, and I should own that success instead of feeling like it isn’t deserved.

“Amazing Things Will Happen” includes stories and mentions of various names in the social media, new media, and marketing industries. And they are all very successful individuals. Reading these anecdotes brought me back to moments in my life where I’ve had conversations with these same people or maybe the place where the conversation took place. It made me remember the first time I had a public speaking opportunity and afterwards walked the streets of French Quarter with the other speakers, including Julien Smith (author) and Micah (who first started #FollowFriday on Twitter). I thought of when I first published and pestered this social media guy Chris Brogan for an interview back in 2008 and I couldn’t believe it when he agreed to it.

And then it made me think of where I am right now, right here at this moment, and the road I’ve traveled to get here. It’s been full of tears and smiles, good decisions, hard decisions, and so many memories from all over the world (sometimes alone, sometimes with a loved one). C.C. Chapman sums it up right there in the title “Amazing Things Will Happen”. They will, if you believe in yourself. Because for me, they already have.

I’m so thankful for all those times I took a risk, took a chance. They didn’t always work out like I planned, and sometimes I’d ask myself “What the heck were you thinking?” Having courage has not only benefited me personally, but also those people who are special to me in my life: my friends and my family. They’ve been able at times to feel a bit of that magic that life brings when someone believes “Amazing Things Will Happen”.

I’m sent books to review all the time, and I rarely recommend something only because it really takes something that moves me to put my name behind it. I bought this myself and didn’t request a review copy because C.C. Chapman inspires me. He will inspire you. Buy “Amazing Things Will Happen” right now. You will not be disappointed. And if you have a friend that needs a boost, buy a copy for them as well.
