Beau Rivage Resort and Casino on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast is one of my favorite places for a quick getaway. The location is close to home, yet far enough away, the rooms are pretty sweet, and it offers a one stop place for all your getaway needs.
Those in ‘the know’ call it The Beau, and recently readers of Country Roads Magazine voted it as their favorite place on the Gulf Coast for a girlfriend getaway. The Beau was one of the many businesses affected by Hurricane Katrina, but she experienced a rebirth as so many other did and has come back even more luxurious.
One of the popular hotspots at The Beau was Coast Brewing Company, which was completely destroyed when the storm surge came sweeping across the Mississippi coastline. It reopened as Coast Nightclub, sans microbrewery. One of the highlights of Coast Brewing was the Biloxi Blonde, a light and flavorful brew served exclusively at The Beau and was their top selling micro-brew. Sadly, Katrina not only took away the brewing equipment at Coast Brew-pub, but also the recipe for this beer.
Enter Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company post-Katrina who has formed a partnership with Beau Rivage, an MGM Resort, to begin producing their own interpretation of Biloxi Blonde which is almost indistinguishable from the original. It relaunched last week at Coast and I was there to witness this relaunch event, as well as sample the iconic beer.
The munchies served along with this brew included Mississippi’s Gulf Coast seafood such as Biloxi Blonde beer battered fried lobster bits, charbroiled oysters with horseradish and joeys, barbecue ribs, fried chicken oysters, crab salad, and many other delicious dishes.
Biloxi Blonde, produced by Lazy Magnolia Brewing Company is a German-style Kolsch beer featuring European and pilsner malts. It has a depth to the taste (pretty darn tasty) with a light and refreshing finish. It has a nice quality and I ended up drinking three tall glasses of Biloxi Blonde. The label is gorgeous and gives the beer a bit of a feminine feel, like it’s okay to be girly and still drink beer.
Biloxi Blonde is now available in bottles and on tap throughout Beau Rivage’s casino, bars, restaurants, theater, and retail shops. It will also be available at Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Mississippi. My fingers are crossed that Biloxi Blonde will soon be found at all MGM Resorts so that I can have a few the next time I’m in Las Vegas.
Special thanks to Beau Rivage Resort Casino and Mary Cracchiolo-Spain for their southern hospitality and hosting my stay. It’s so good to see Biloxi Blonde back at The Beau.
